Hi Son,
Cyber Monday Air NZ was a flop so we are planning on going fly stand-by to NZ. The kids and I will be leaving Christmas day and dad will go with Mina on the 28th Dec. So pray for us that we get on our flights. Last night Leila and Erana had their Tausala recital, Lots of people came and the girls did great! Mina got her braces off. Jaxon has been winning money from playing games with his friends - fortnite! lol What do you want me to send you for Christmas?
Love you Mum & Dad xxx

Hey Big Bro,
I got my braces off and it feels nice but I kinda miss braces already haha. Not much happened this week, just working at chickfila everyday;
Stay safe and love you -Mina6

Hey Tyrell,
Nothing interesting happened this week, just school. We had the Christmas breakfast on Saturday. The food was delicious as always. Then later that day we went to Leila and Eranas Tausala recital. I hung out with Talia and Vintrick there. It was pretty fun, Leila and Erana did great. That’s everything for today, hope you have a fun week!
Love, Jaxon XOXO

Hello Tyrell,
I played at Jenna’s house on Tuesday and we ate spaghetti with garlic rolls. For Young Womens, we gave some thoughts for activities we could do next year. We had nachos Sister Ishino brought. Erana and I went to Tausala practice on Thursday, and we got Powerades. Mom, Erana, and I had Arctic Circle for dinner. Mina and I went to the ortho on Friday and I have to wear rubber bands now. Talia slept over. Yesterday, we went to the Christmas breakfast and I wrote you, Elder Ballard, and Sister Cloward a note. The Wolferstan family and Johnnie and Kat came over for dinner. Then, we went to our Tausala show and did very well, I didn’t drop my knife. I got really stressed because I got dressed into the wrong costume so I had to run back and get redressed, do the dance, and get back into the costume I had on. When I got back to line up, I realized I forgot my necklace and so I went to get my necklace when mom ran up to me with my necklace. Julie, Maddie (our cousin), and Mina got Erana and I our own asian roll, lychee juice, and asian candy. Mom, Jaxon, Erana, and I stayed to help clean up. We watched The Sound of Music for our family movie. I hope you have a great week, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!!!
Love, Leila XOXO

Hi Son,
Went to Scott’s tonight for cake and ice-cream for Heather’s 40th birthday.  Not much happened this week just the normal stuff. Went to kapa haka instead of Tausala (the girls tahitian group) because we are performing for the Tabernacle choir for their end of the year party and we are performing with Tausala, so their pro-team was at our kapa haka practice. This coming weekend is Minas open house for her friends on friday and her farewell on sunday. I’ve been stressing out about it! Lol Hope this storm is not as bad and that your safe, dry and warm.
Love you Mum and Dad xxx

Hey Big Bro,
I have my farewell next week and i'm quite nervous because I need to write my talk. This is the only thing i’m anxious about haha. I’ve heard there's a big storm in North Carolina. I hope you stay safe. Love you! - Mina

Hello Tyrell,
We went to the Morley’s open house to see decorations and have snacks. Erana gave the lesson for FHE and she taught us about Dallin H. Oaks life. For YW on Wednesday, we made ugly sweater cookies, made big name tags for Sister Ballard, Sister Ferguson, and Sister Hauet, and had karaoke. On Thursday, mom, Jaxon, Erana, and I went to Kapa Haka, but this time, Aunty Fina (my Tausala dance teacher) and the pro team practiced with us. The pro team are the professional older girls. Mom, dad, Erana, and I went to a new store on Friday that had yummy candy, cool toys, and useful gadgets. Yesterday, mom, Erana, and I went to Aunty Dolly’s grandson’s fiance’s wedding shower. Then, Erana and I played at Kage’s. Today, I helped at the Bennion Care Center and we went to Aunty Heather’s for her 40th birthday. I hope you have a great week, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!
Love, Leila XOXO

Heather's birthday

12/16/18

Hi Son,
On Friday Mina had an open house farewell for her friends at our house. There were enough to fill the basement up. We made some snack foods and chicken salad croissants. Mina showed them the Toys of Fury movies and and they played a couple games before the last of them left at about 11pm. Then Sunday Mina had her farewell and did and great job. The spirit was strong. She even had a non-member friend show up. After we ate at Uncle Scott’s home. It was crowded. Lots of people and food. It turned out well. We got your cards, funny alright. Jaxon says, “Eww what pants is Tyrell wearing?” So on Christmas day you’ll have to call the home first or call me on my cell phone. Mina and I will be home Christmas day. Mum will be on her way to NZ and could be sitting at an airport. You can call her as well but call me first and I can tell you where she is. Also let us know if you will video call on FB or Google hangouts. My cell is 801-707-4025. Enjoying your letters and it sounds like you are doing well. Now you need to experience a black church with gospel singing. Keep up the good work. It’s not long now but endure to the end.
Love Dad and Mum.

Hi Tyrell,
Mina said her talk it was good after that we went to aunty Heather’s house to have a party with cousins and Minas friends I had a great week.
love Erana xoxoXoXoxOxO

Hello Tyrell,
We went to a live nativity on Tuesday and I was a Nephite shooting arrows at Samuel the Lamanite. We went to This is the Place for YW and had donuts and hot cocoa. On Thursday, we went to Kapa Haka. Friday, Mina’s friends came over for her open house like the Morley’s. Her friends are mostly boys, very obnoxious boys. Mom made caramel corn and we watched some films dad made, then we played mafia. Yesterday, the Kapa Haka group came to Tausala to practice for our performance. We had delicious donuts and cookies. Erana and I played at Kage’s afterwards and watched his b-ball game. Today, Mina’s talk made me ball my eyes out and there were lots and lots of people. At Uncle Scott’s, we e ate yummy food and played with cousins. I hope you have a great week, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!!!
Love, Leila XOXO

Hey Tyrell,
On Friday, Mina’s friends came over for her open house. It was pretty fun, and today was Wiramina’s farewell. She did an amazing job on her talk, it made Mum and Dad cry lol. Then afterwards we went to Uncle Scott’s house to have a big feed. I probably gained a lot of pounds because of how many delicious food there was. Then we just hung out. Hope you have an amazing week!

Skype ID is CandiWihongi.  I'll be dropping of Mum and the 3 younger kids at the airport in the morning. Look forward to talking with you.
Love Dad and Mum

Addon: We opened our Christmas gifts Christmas Eve. I got off work at 1:30pm to use some admin leave we get each year. We had a yummy Christmas eve dinner.

Mina and I left to NZ on the 28th and arrived on the 30th. The flight was not too bad, Slept most of the way after dinner. Woke up for breaky. We sat next to each other in a middle row section. The flight wasn't full. Candi and Lian picked us up in our rental car. We had a walk in the evening which was nice and for New Years Eve we drove to Omaha beach about an hour away north. We had a fun day. Was cloudy but still got a little toasty. We could see Great Barrier island in the distance so I showed Erana that that is where her middle name Aotea comes from. We did the countdown at midnight watching the fireworks on the Sky tower go off on tv. We've had fish and chips and pies and feijoa smoothies, soo yumm!! Quite a New Years to remember.

What I just said was my Pepeha, which is a customary way for the maori people to say where they came from. The one I said is from my father’s side. It tells what canoe my forefathers came to Aotearoa (New Zealand) in and describes the land they settled, the tribe I’m from and the names of prominent ancestors such as my grandparents, then my parents and me.

I was called to serve in the Hamilton, New Zealand mission. I’ll be leaving on the 28th but won’t be reporting to the Auckland MTC until January 3rd. So I’ll have a few extra days to spend with family there. My father was raised where my mission home is, in Temple View. And his first cousin is a counselor in the mission presidency. My grandpa lives in Hamilton, my mothers dad. And my mum also has a sister living in my mission area. Basically, I’ll just be seeing a lot of family and extended family wherever I’ll go, and I don’t know if I should feel blessed or anxious about it. Probably both. It was really exciting when I received my call because I kept hearing the words, “Congratulations! You’ve been called home!”

I am eager to serve the Lord and to bring others unto Christ. I've always had a desire to share the gospel, and the more I got to know my savior, the more I wanted others to feel his comfort and love. He has done so much for me and I can't imagine how it feels to live without his peace. I hope to lift the hands that are hanging down, to give them faith, hope, and encouragement in living the gospel. I know I still have a lot to prepare for, but I will try my best to serve with my whole heart, mind, and soul. I love my Savior so much and all that he has done and will continue to do for me. I truly wouldn't be at this point in my life without Him and His Atonement.

The topic I’ll be speaking on is the First Principle of the Gospel, which is Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Now let me remind you what faith is, Apostle Paul taught that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Alma made a similar statement: “If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true” And how do we gain faith? How do we gain evidence of our Savior, whom we have not seen? Well, The answer is that we gain faith just as we gain any other attribute. We must first establish a foundation (in this case our foundation is the belief in Christ), and then need to cultivate our thoughts and actions in ways that strengthen our Faith.

Faith is just like a muscle. If exercised, it grows strong. If left immobile, it becomes weak.  I will be telling you three simple ways that can help strengthen and increase your Faith in Christ as it did with mine. The first, is through  Earnest Praying. “Prayer is vocalized Faith”.

There was a point in my life where I struggled so badly with my self-worth. And I wasn’t on the right path of where I was supposed to be. I made wrong choices that would damage my view of myself even more. I was in this low state for a couple months and within those months I distanced myself from family and friends, and I just felt so alone. It came to a point where I even felt unworthy to Pray. Silly, I know. But Satan knows Prayer is such a strong tool in strengthening our Faith that, Sometimes, he will try to convince us that we are not worthy to pray—that our Father in Heaven is so displeased with us that He will never hear our prayers. This is a lie.
The loneliness I felt drove me to wonder if Christ really suffered for us in the Garden of Gethsemane, and if he truly felt the pain and heartache I was feeling at the time. This curiosity would torment me for days, that I eventually pushed aside Satan’s lie of me being unworthy to pray, and I fell on my knees asking with genuine sincerity, “Heavenly Father, Did Jesus Christ Atone for my sins? Did he truly suffer for me?” The second I finished my prayer, the answer came to me instantly. I felt a burning warmth inside my chest that was so overwhelming, I was brought to tears. The spirit confirmed to me that Christ’s suffered and died for us and That His Atonement is true. I know undoubtedly that Christ loves us, and made a way for us to return in his presence with our Father in Heaven. Because of praying, I know of surety that our Savior knows what we’re going through and my faith in him has increased.

After receiving an answer about the Atonement it led me to Repentance. Which is the second way that you can use and strengthen your Faith in Christ. It is also the second principle of The Gospel.

Since I knew of surety that Christ’s Atonement was true, I prayed again, confessed, and asked for forgiveness for the wrong choices I’ve made and for hating myself because I knew it saddened Him. I then used the faith I gained to start making changes my life. I started to read my scriptures more, continued to pray day and night, and reached out to family and friends more. Overtime, I didn’t feel any guilt or sorrow anymore & I no longer had a desire to give into old temptations. In Alma 34:16-17, it says
“Therefore only unto him that has faith unto repentance is brought about the great and eternal plan of redemption.
Therefore may God grant unto you, my brethren, that ye may begin to exercise your faith unto repentance, that ye begin to call upon his holy name, that he would have mercy upon you” After returning onto the right path and repenting, I felt forgiveness for my sins and my faith in Christ and his Atonement strengthened because of it.

The last way that can strengthen your Faith in Christ is, to me, the hardest one. But also an important one. It is to Endure.

When I think of a prophet who faithfully endured in the scriptures, I think of Moses.
Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. He demanded the Pharaoh to let his people go but the Pharaoh wouldn’t. Because of this, The Lord sent many miracles of plagues and famines to the Egyptians, but the Pharaoh continued to refuse Moses’ request, until his firstborn son was struck dead. Finally the Pharaoh called for Moses and said “Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; Take your flocks and your herds and be gone”
And so six hundred thousand Israelite men and about one-and-a-half million women and children left Egypt on foot. “The Lord went before them … to lead … the way”

But by the time they had reached the Red Sea, Pharaoh had changed his mind. He wanted his six hundred thousand slaves back, so with a host of chariots he pursued them. With the churning and impassable Red Sea in front and the thundering army coming from behind, the Israelites were paralyzed with fear. They forgot, in the terror of the moment, who was really in charge of their future. They forgot the miracles they had already seen and that God knew them. They forgot their faith. And they cried out to Moses: “It had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness”

Brothers and sisters, how many times have you seen faith slip away from others or even yourself when times get too rough? When we are given trials, whether it’s not passing a final last week or experiencing death of a loved one, don’t be afraid. Instead think of the words Moses said unto his people. He said,

“Fear ye not, stand still.
“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace”

The Israelites then remembered their faith. & You know the next part of the story, with the Power of the Lord Moses was able to part the sea and they were freed. Thus the Lord saved Israel.
It is extremely important to faithfully endure and remember our Savior through problems in our lives. No, He will not take away all of our trials, but He will ease our burdens and fight for us. And just like Moses, the lord will give us power to overcome our obstacles and our faith in him will grow. Apostle Neal A. Maxwell taught that “one’s life cannot be both faith-filled and stress free.” Also, a dwarf named Gimli also taught, “Faithless is he that says Farewell when the road darkens.”
Since New Zealand is the home of Lord of the Rings, I thought it was appropriate. Anyways,
Brothers and sisters, I invite you this Christmas season to increase your Faith in the Savior. Whether it be praying, reading your scriptures, or putting your trust in Him. I promise you that you’ll feel Christ’s joy, love, and peace.  “Press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, endure to the end, and ye shall eternal life”.

I know this is the true and restored church. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and was translated by Joseph Smith. And that he and President Nelson, who’s the prophet of our church today, was called of God. I know that our brother Jesus Christ atoned for our sins and that He and Heavenly Father loves each one of us.

I know that if you hold onto your Faith till the end, and continue to live righteously, when the time comes to be in their presence again, you’ll hear the same words I got when I opened my call, “Congratulations, you’ve been called home!”

And I say these things in the Name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Scripture of the Month: Same as October

11/4/18

Hi Son,
We have another teenager...Leila she turned 13 on the 29th, went out to eat at the village Inn at South Towne Mall. It was a Monday night and it wasn’t crowded we had yummy dinner and then went to Round One a place with arcades, bowling, karaoke etc. We did an hour of Karaoke and it was fun.
Halloween was at Scott’s again and it was just us them and Uncle Jared’s family. We had boil up and soups and the weather was dark and a little cold. We trick a treated around their neighborhood and then came back to uncle’s sang Happy Birthday to Leila.
Mina will be going through the temple soon, the Jordan River Temple for her endowment, she just needs to make an appointment.
Well just work, school and church stuff for us, we are all good and are happy and doing what we need to, to return to our Heavenly Father as a family cause that’s all that matters really.
Hope you are doing well and are safe.
We love you, Dad and Mum xxx

Hello Tyrell,
For my birthday, we went to Village Inn and then we went to a karaoke place in the South Town Mall. I got flowers from Sister Ishino,  an outfit from Mina, a strawberry from Jaxon, and lots of treats and clothes from mom and Erana. I also got a game called Chow Crown that we can play when you get home. Tuesday, Erana and I played at Jenna’s house and had spaghetti. On Halloween, I was Oscar the Grouch and we had clam chowder, boil up, sausages, and tortilla soup I think it’s called. We went trick-or-treating at Aunty Heather’s. Thursday, Erana and I had Tausala, and I’m getting way better at smiling and shouting. Mom and I went to some stores on Friday and then I got a strawberry shake and fries from McDonald’s. Then, I went to the Ballard’s for a movie and Sister Ballard made the best popcorn ever! We watched Little Women. I hope you have a good day, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!!!
Love, Leila XOXO

Hey Tyrell,
On Wednesday we celebrated Halloween at Auntie Heather’s house. I was in my chewbacca onesie again. I went to go see the Venom movie with Talia on Saturday. Then we ate at In-n-out. The orthodontist said that I’ll get my braces off before or after Christmas so that’s exciting. That’s all for today, hope you have a fun week.
Love, Jaxon XOXO

Hey Big Bro,
I am going to get my endowments this week. I’m excited! I’ll be getting them out in the Jordan River Temple. I leave in two months! Fall is beautiful here. When you come back, you gotta go to Round 1, it’s just like japan and karaoking is cheap and fun! I hope you’re doing well!
Love you - Mina

Hi Tyrell,
Jaxon and I are sick at home so we didn’t get to go to church so I watched two movies with Jaxon and then the family came back from church.

11/18/18

Hi Son,
Not much going on, just work and same stuff. Ward members were asking how your doing, I said he's good and loves his mission. The Welch's farewell was Sunday, they sold their home, Rob Welch wants us to let him know when your homecoming is. Also the Vandertoolens sold their home and are no longer in our ward too.
Anxious about buying our airplane tickets with airnz on black Friday, hoping we get cheap tickets so we can take Mina in Dec.
Love hearing from you and seeing photos, what are some things you want for Christmas besides money? Bishop said that the ward is going to pay for December's bill for all the ward missionaries, that's nice huh! Well take care work hard and listen to the Holy Ghost!!!
Love Mum & Dad xxx

Hello Tyrell,
For Young Womens, we went to the food bank to help. I was in a group that taped a paper on each plastic bag. In my group was Analee Morgan, Payton Hauet, Sister Hauet, Kirsten Cloward, and Lillian Rudolph. Kaiden Morgan made rice krispy treats that we had afterwards. Erana and I had Tausala on Thursday and I received my first knife! Well, my first and last knife. It has a man on the blade with Tausala below and Sagato below Tausala. At the end of class the older girls performed a song to the 8 o’clock class, and Aunty Fina asked how we felt watching the dance. Everyone had to answer, so I said that the dance made me happy and that the girls did the dance so well and that I want to become as good as them. On Friday, Mom, dad, Erana, and I went to Wendy’s for dinner. Yesterday, Kage and I went to the Bell’s house for a Thanksgiving lunch feast. Other people were there, but I don’t want to name them all, and they were all 12-13 year olds. We had mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, stuffing, turkey, and garlic biscuits. Sister missionaries were there and they taught us a wonderful lesson. We played outside while we were waiting for dessert. We had ice cream, apple pie, and pumpkin pie. The Bell’s have a shared backyard with their grandma, so they made 2 flying foxes, a small one and a big one. The big one went from the grandma’s deck to the Bell’s tree. I only held onto one knot and went upside down. Kage and I walked home. Then, Kage and Dray played over, and Erana and I played over at Kage’s. We watched Christopher Robin for our family movie. I hope you have a great week, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!!!
Love, Leila XOXO

Hi Tyrell,
Kage and Dray came over and then Leila and I went to Kage and Drays house.
Love Erana xoxoXoXoxOxO

Hey Tyrell,
I slept over at my friend Jess’s house with my other friend Thayden on Friday. Then on Friday, me and my friends went to Classic Skating. There was this one bounce thing that had trampolines that you bounce into these target air bloated things, and they were long. And I told my friends, “Watch how far I’ll go.” And then I jumped and did 2 front flips and face planted into the other bounce thing across from it lol. Now my neck is sore and I have a bruise on my hand from catching myself on the ground. We watched Christopher Robin today and it was funny and a good movie. Don’t know if you know already but Stan Lee passed away:( That was pretty sad. Hope you have an awesome and spiritual week.
Love, Jaxon XOXO

11/11/18

Hi Son,
That’s pretty awesome you got a new companion that you know already. I’m sure you did an awesome job training Elder Albrecht. Sounds like you having good success in Pembroke. Friday Mina went through the Temple for the first time. She felt the spirit so strong. It was a good experience. Uncle Tyrone and his wife Marci were there and Auntie Heather too. After we ate out a King Buffet. Mum and I have been going to the temple each week on Friday for the last couple months. We’re trying to finish up some names on Grandma’s side. Sunday we went to a celebration honoring the ending of WW I one hundred years ago on the steps of the Utah State Capitol. All the bagpipe bands of Utah came to play 2 songs together. The war ended and the armistice signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918. After the presentation of the flag and anthem, a guy gave a short speech honoring those who were from Utah that died in the war and gave accounts from people who were there. Then there was a 21 gun salute and playing taps. But right at 11am, Nov 11th, exactly 100 years after we had a moment of silence then the bagpipes played. It was pretty awesome. I have Monday off for Veterans day. Hope all is well.
Love Mum and Dad.

Wassuh Tyrelly Smelly,
We went to the capitol building because a lot of bagpipers were gonna play for the 100th year of the ending of WW1. Then after church I drove Dad on the freeway for the first time. I’m a pretty good driver. That’s everything interesting this week so hope you have a spectacular week.
Love, Jaxon XOXO

Hey big bro,
Guess what happened this week??? I was endowed on friday!!! Man, it was amazing and a lot to take in haha. I was emotional the whole time. When entering the celestial room, I felt Grandma and Grandpa with me. I knew it was them because I said a prayer and could feel their presence. It was very beautiful. Do you remember your first time going through the temple? I hope you’re doing well! I have about one month until I leave to NZ! My farewell is the 16th of December, then we’re leaving on the 27th. We are going a week early so I can meet family and Mom and dad wants to drop me off to the MTC. I can’t wait to see you when you come to pick me up! Hahaha
Love you - Mina

Hello Tyrell,
Mom got me socks and pants from Walmart when we went shopping for a photo for Young Womens. Then, mom and I got fries from Mcdonald’s. Next, for Young Womens twas Young Women in Excellence and we were talking about personal progress and we had refreshments. There was a table where we put our displays on it and I put pois, a kapa haka costume, and my thoughts about the personal progress goal I did. Erana and I played at the Ballard’s on Thursday and we had so much fun! Then we went to Tausala practice, my favorite part of Thursday. On Friday, mom got us pizza. Saturday, Erana and I played at Kage’s house and did great service for Aunty Heather. Kage and I did the dishes and wiped down the counter and I swept and organized the shoes. Aunty Heather got us pizza and Tim Tam’s for our hot cocoa. We watched a movie called Skyscraper. I hope you have a great week, stay safe! I LOVE YOU!!!

Hey Big Bro,
Rhylinn is born!!!!!! Cynthia had a baby, and I was in the delivery room… It was.. Interesting haha. She is so cute but is 3 weeks premature. Auntie Tania is going to be a funny grandma.
