January 2021 - Jaxon's 18th Birthday

 1/3/21

On Saturday 2nd, Jay and I drove to Las Vegas. He had some use or lose annual time to use so we stayed until Tuesday 5th. On the way we stopped at Beaver and got us an ice-cream. In Vegas we stayed at MGM Signature again, it's our favorite and has a reasonable price with really nice rooms. We didn't do much sight seeing down the strip. We walked to the Mile Mall Saturday evening and took Panda Express back to eat. Another night we went to Ross. Sunday we went to Hoover Dam and walked around. It was a huge Dam and many tourists were there, we ate lunch, burgers and fries. After the Dam we stopped at a walking park that had statue's of animals like a snake, turtle, road runner, scorpion etc. We stopped and got gas and food from a grocery store and took it back to our room to eat.  I went overboard and got too much food lol. We had beautiful weather, it was nice to get out of Utah's cold winter weather. We went hiking at Red Rock Canyon Monday, the Calico Tanks hike. Jay loves to go hiking, me not so much if it's really tiring and hard lol. This was not a short hike and it was kind of tiring, but we stopped a lot. We took a lot of photos and the end scenery was beautiful. Our stay in Vegas was nice we stopped for ice-cream in Beaver on the way home again.

1/24/21

We ate at Jared's home on Sunday. He invited us just because. Friday Candi, Tyrell and I went and submitted our Concealed Weapon Permits. Candi didn't have her drivers license and had to run home and she got back as they were closing for the day and made an exception to get hers done.

Jaxon had his 18th birthday. We took him to the Paradise buffet. He got some clothes and money and a moist chocolate pudding cake using Heather's recipe. She had brought it to Jared's. He got a new iPhone from his friends. They came over, some poly girls. One of them broke one of the folding chairs in the basement.

December

 12/31/20

December I had Seren Garcia's Baptism, it went well. Since we weren't going to New Zealand this year plus we were going in February because of the Wihongi Reunion, but it was all canceled due to Covid. I had to do a lot of shopping for kids and neighbors and primary.  For Primary I had bought a Christmas ornament that said 'Hear Him', I gave them out to all the kids with a candy cane and msg. The Primary Teachers/Leaders I got them a loaf of bread from Walmart and put a msg on it about 'Bread' and what it has to do with Jesus. All of the kids gifts I got them this year, I was putting them in their own big box. I wrapped up most of their gifts with Christmas wrapping paper and put them into each of their boxes and then I wrapped up the boxes too. I got everything nearly on everyone's list except for Tyrell, he had a very extravagant list and got only one thing off of his list from Leila which was a longboard - because our longboard disappeared from out of our garage. And Erana's 'Kitten' she wanted we still haven't gotten one, not sure if we ever will. Russian Blue Kitten's are a lot of money and I can't find a breeder here in Utah. It's hard shopping for the kids, especially Leila, her list was very vague wanting Love, Joy and Happiness lol. We enjoyed watching the Mandolorian season 2 together on Sundays. In the last episode it was awesome to see Luke Skywalker show up to take Grogu.
Christmas Morning kids woke us up at about 8am they opened their stockings which were pretty scabby this year. They opened their gifts they got from each other. And then they took turns from oldest to youngest opening their boxes. I think everyone was happy with their gifts. In the evening we played dance games with Scott and Heather's family.

We had New Year's here in our home and played Heads Up and Dance games on the Playstation. Scott and Heather and fam came over.

October - Leila's 15th Birthday

10/4/20

We had General Conference which was nice. A lot of talks about enduring hard times and preparing for it. Elder Bednar mentioned getting your food storage and stuff ready or up-to-date. We've been doing that already and I've been trying to add stuff to it and other preparation stuff. President Nelson spoke about the meaning of Israel which is "Let God Prevail" and to allow Him to do that in our lives. I want to do that in my life and increase my faith in God.

10/11/20

The kids went to the Ashworth Halloween party on Monday and had fun. I took the day off on Thursday and with Monday off for Columbus Day I'll have a 5 day weekend. Candi and I went and stayed the night at Wendover again in the Peppermill on Thursday. We stopped at the Salt Flats again to drive on the salt and take photos. Weather was nice and warm and Sunny. I have to have these little getaways since I work from home and don't go anywhere all week. We watched a movie in the room sitting in the hot tub. The next day we got breaky at McD's and then drove home. We stopped at the Saltair and walked along the edge of the Salt Lake for a bit. It was nice.

10/18/20

Columbus Day I didn't do that much. Hung out at home, lame. Not much else went on this week. Oh, our ward went back to church last week for the first time in ages. They had it broadcast on the churches system so we could stay home and watch on the internet if we wanted to and we did. Garrison Hauet gave his mission report. This week Mina gave hers so we went to the church. She did a good job and had a spiritual talk and she got lots of compliments. My brothers families just watched from home but Josh and Louisa came over to eat and visit. We had a good chat and feed. Tane Moleni and parents came to the talk but the parents couldn't stay for the feed.

10/25/20

We had a hangi feed on Saturday that the Maori group made. Candi brought home the plates from Cher's she also went and helped prep the food the day before. Tyrell started getting sick with chills and a sore throat. Jaxon then also started getting the same symptoms. We suspect it could be covid-19.

10/31/20

I got the same symptoms on Monday the 26th. I got chills and felt crappy but still worked the whole day from home. Tuesday I had a sore throat in the morning and chills and stuff. I quit working around noon. Wednesday I took the day off sick. Morning was the worst time to feel bad with sore throat but gets better later. Also had headaches at times. We had bought some vitamin c (ascorbic acid powder) a while ago and I was taking one teaspoon a day in my water bottle with drink flavors. I read about how vitamin c is quite powerful in killing viruses. I upped my intake during my sickness to 2 teaspoons in my water bottle in the morning and 2 at lunch. I think it helped shorten my sick time. The sore throat lasted 2 days and the chills 2 or 3. The random headaches for a few days longer. I had a little congestion but not enough to block my nose or anything. That lasted a couple weeks. My sense of smell and taste changed. Couldn't taste much or smell much. That lasted a couple weeks. Mina got the same symptoms a few days after mine were diminishing and she got tested for covid so she could get paid to stay home sick. She was positive so we all had it except Candi, Leila and Erana. I've had colds that were worse but didn't ever lose taste and smell. I'm glad I don't have to worry about getting it anymore. Strange that Candi didn't get it if it is so contagious since we slept in the same bed and no masks. I think masks are all plaque. I didn't go out to eat with Leila at Leatherbys for her bday. Candi, Erana and Jaxon did. We had fried chicken from Luckys and pizza from Papa Murphys. Her cake was a pumpkin pie. Leila is 15 and a beautiful young lady. We are so lucky to have her as our daughter. Candi was in charge of the ward Trunk or Treat on Friday. Saturday we had Halloween at Scott's again and ate yummy soups and boil up and Heather's bread. Jared's fam came over too. There were still many people giving out candi but they were more cautious with having distance and stuff since lately the covid cases have been going up. We had tres leches for Leila too. Friday Candi and I went and voted early. TRUMP 2020!! MAGA!! KAG!!
